Representation ID: 1953

Representation Summary:

Support. Given the vast quantity of heritage assets in Medway, developer contributions should be sought. Heritage should be integral to design and should be integrated into development.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 2376

Received: 04/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Victoria Holloway

Representation Summary:

The retention of iconic sites in the area is important for a sense of what a place was and could be. The gasometer near The Strand is a well known site for local people. A development similar to that of Gasholder Park near Kings Cross in London is a good example of what can be done to keep the heritage whilst addressing the problem of housing.

Representation Summary:

Areas of Strood such as Temple Manor need to be better incorporated into the local area. Trails in greenspaces should be enhanced and maintained to encourage people to visit these historic sites. For example the Strood Community Trail.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 2970

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Paul Pattison

Representation Summary:

I'm not sure that Medway has a Heritage Strategy, other than in draft form, nor a list of non-designated Heritage Assets. Under these circumstances it can only have an ad-hoc approach to the Historic Environment. Medway needs to take a much more pro-active stance in listing, conserving, and promoting its heritage, and not simply in its response to development.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 3740

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck

Representation Summary:

To ensure that Medway’s historic environment continues to contribute to the area, the Council must prioritise the conservation, enhancement, and enjoyment of its heritage assets. This commitment is essential for preserving the distinctiveness and character of Medway’s historic sites. By focusing on these aspects, the Council can protect and celebrate the rich history that defines the area, ensuring that future developments do not undermine the historic value. Upholding this commitment will help maintain Medway's cultural heritage, providing lasting benefits to the community and preserving the unique character of the region for future generations.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 3804

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade

Representation Summary:

I think the local plan should include our agricultural heritage for consideration. It appears that throughout all the documents there is little reference to our agricultural heritage nor our thriving farming community. These should be given more support.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Respondent: Miss Rosamund Beattie

Representation Summary:

I am glad you say "the historic environment is an irreplaceable resource that lies at the heart of the character of Medway". I hope your planning department bears that in mind when it considers the Ironmonger's Yard development that will destroy the historic view of Rochester Castle as you walk from Chatham. Historic buildings and views must be conserved for future generations. We are but stewards of historic buildings during our short time on this earth.
