Support. Conservation areas are being destroyed by HMO landlords. We need to reintroduce long term communities into these areas to ensure proper stewardship.

Respondent: Miss Verity Melhuish

Representation Summary:

If you care about the heritage of the area so much, then don’t build over it. Nature is integral to our culture and history and the council can never replace them. Medway’s environment is precious. It is about more than Rochester’s tourism - its farming, agriculture, public footpaths, the countryside.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 2814

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: Option Two Development Ltd

Agent: DHA Planning

Representation Summary:

It is important that the policy takes a proportionate approach to heritage assets that accords with national planning policy. At present, policy DM9 does not distinguish between designated and non-designated heritage assets, instead seeming to apply a blanket approach to both.

In particular, it does not distinguish between the loss of or substantial harm to designated and non-designated heritage assets, despite the NPPF applying different requirements to each.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 3742

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck

Representation Summary:

Heritage assets are a vital part of Medway’s cultural identity and must be protected as a top priority. The preservation of these assets ensures that the historical and architectural character of the area is maintained for future generations. Medway Council should focus on safeguarding these valuable resources by implementing robust conservation measures and integrating heritage considerations into all development plans. Prioritising the protection of heritage assets not only respects the past but also enhances the community's sense of place and identity, contributing to the overall quality of life and attracting visitors who value historical significance.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 3810

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade

Representation Summary:

There should be a heritage lists that includes, not only those of National or International important but also those of local importance. It is a pity this was not considered when discussing the Gibraltar Farm development. Gibraltar Farm and Elm Court were used as a dummy airfield during the last World war.
At school we are devising a secondary curriculum that includes local issues and history. We are including local interest sites, why isn't the council?

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 4118

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Rosamund Beattie

Representation Summary:

"Development that impacts a heritage asset, or its setting, should achieve a high quality of design which will conserve or enhance the asset's significance and setting". That phrase is simply a contradiction. If you are destroying a heritage asset or view, no modern design will make up for that.
Secondly, I cannot recall one high quality modern design that I have ever seen in Rochester as compared to the historic buildings therein.
Medway should have a local heritage list, although as Historic England already has one, what purpose would it serve? Planning consent more difficult to obtain? Then yes.
