This is incredibly important and all new development should incorporate this as standard. Those new developments already built which don't conform should be looked at in order to improve the area for all residents by reducing road traffic.

In Allhallows the majority of children are driven to school as lots of parents then drive to work. The same for pickup. Most children get the bus to secondary school and home. Shopping is either delivered or people drive to the supermarket. People drive to socialise. Depending on exercise some drive to gyms others walk across the country side or horse ride. A few cycle. The main form of transport is the car.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 3975

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck

Representation Summary:

Living in Allhallows, expecting us to walk or cycle for grocery shopping means a 20-mile round trip—an impractical distance. The local primary school is already at capacity due to the influx of new residents from recent housing developments, while the nearby Stoke school has been closed for no apparent reason, forcing local children to our overburdened school. This lack of school spaces means longer commutes for families, with children needing to travel further each year. The current plan highlights how out of touch Medway Council is with the actual needs and infrastructure of our community.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Representation ID: 4119

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Medway Labour and Cooperative Group

Representation Summary:

Significant investment and culture change required to achieve this. Public transport provision is not provided at levels required. Need to ensure that development gain is funnelled more efficiently at provision of sustainable transport. Too often we see residential developments not providing adequate pedestrian and cycling provision, and inappropriate speed limits and associated road features for sustainable development.
