The Strood’s Greenbelt proposal came out of the blue as the developing policies found in Reg 18 had seeming safeguarded all of Medway’s Greenbelt land. Strood’s Greenbelt land some of which is located in Gravesham BC, is bounded by the A289 (Halsted Road), and lays to the immediate Northwest of Strood’s current urban area. If developed would it increase Strood by nearly a third. This massive hit on Strood’s infrastructure is unacceptable and the removal of Strood’s green lung will cut off resident’s access to the countryside’s open and green spaces.

Whilst we fully understand the need for additional housing, using greenbelt land to build on is not correct. I also question how greenbelt land can suddenly be considered in this instance, as this is meant to be being protected across the UK. There are many other areas of disused land across Medway that could be considered instead of turning good quality greenbelt land into a housing development

The Plan’s references to cooperation with Gravesham Borough Council on unmet housing need lack clear evidence of binding agreements or effective joint action. The scale of unmet need is not fully quantified or incorporated into Medway’s housing targets, undermining the Plan’s soundness. Justification for Green Belt boundary changes is insufficiently transparent and robust. Additionally, housing needs may be inflated by London overspill assumptions, and the Plan fails to address issues of poor-quality HMOs and unaffordability. Without addressing these concerns, the Plan risks legal non-compliance and being unsound.
