6.1. Paragraph 8.12.2 identifies that there is currently a shortfall in retail provision in the Hoo Peninsula. The provision of a 25,000 sqf CIA supermarket to meet this need is considered as a positive opportunity to help deliver this shortfall.
6.2. However, comments are raised relating to the E use class mix, which have been responded to under policy SA8.

Addressing the needs of existing residents is welcomed, this policy should not be seen as a green light for accepting a development strategy which in its own right is unsustainable (in terms of identifying the Hoo Peninsula as an area of significant growth for housing).

The potential to provide new services for both the existing and future occupiers is considered a positive step to supporting the existing community of the Hoo Peninsula, in addition to the potential future occupiers of the strategic new settlement.
Although HHH41 site is only a small site, the intentions to provide new local services will support the sustainability objectives of the future development, which will encourage the use of walking, public transport and reduce the use of the private vehicles.
