Terms such as "will consider the need', 'expected to submit', 'opportunities sought' are not very reassuring. Developers look to have an upper hand for blanket development once planning permission granted. Current woodland, verges, hedges and grassy areas would disappear to the detriment of the area.

Some of the footpaths do need better signposting and protection and maintenance and perhaps some of the money being funnelled into the ineffective and compromised Bird Wise can go in this direction. perhaps some paths can be made dual bike/walker to make them more viable, as many more people are taking up biking.

I am fully supportive of this policy, its protection for national ecological and landscape designations, and its benefits for everyone. Its importance is even greater with urban expansion pressures and Maidstone's Lidsing Development removing a strategic gap.
I'm please to see that retrofitting ecological networks to existing urban areas is suggested, but am aware that, in the past, trees were removed from urban streets to save on maintenance costs.

Chatham Docks is vital to maintaining a ‘robust…blue infrastructure network…’
The river-borne and sea-borne traffic associated with Chatham Docks allows direct sustainable connections with the rest of the South-East and with European ports, rather than just lorry deliveries in and out. These options would be lost were Chatham Docks to be redeveloped for uses not requiring water-based transport, and with displaced industry instead relying more on road-based transport with consequent carbon impact.

This generally sounds positive. Kent is the garden of England and it would be much appreciated by the current residents if it could remain so, rather than be concreted for the benefit of those who currently do not live here. As the population explosion is down to unprecedented immigration levels, perhaps the Labour council and the Medway MPs could urge the Labour administration in Westminster to curb / stop these numbers, thus alleviating the housing crisis.

There needs to be a pro-active policy of maintaining green spaces between rural villages and between rural villages and urban areas to maintain the individual character of Medway's rural villages. To prevent the green lungs around villages being eroded away new development proposals should not be permitted in green lung areas.

I like the emphasis on rights of way, cycle routes, and riverside access. These protect biodiversity but also boost public health.
However, while important, similar requirements should apply to smaller projects to ensure consistency across the whole of Medway. we need to put more emphasis on how retrofitting urban areas will be incentivised and delivered. These areas often face the greatest need for improvement.
