I am concerned that you talk about the environment and air quality whilst also talking about increased housing on greenfield sites. Building on greenfield has a detrimental effect on air quality, as does more housing, but it’ll be existing residents who will pay the price, and get punished (probably financially) for the increase in pollution, even though they haven’t increased their carbon footprint. Walking and cycling is all very well, but if you live on the fringes of the towns, you need to be pretty fit to cope with the hills, esp in Lordswood and Walderslade.

Building more houses, esp on greenfield areas away from main line stations will only add to poor air quality, but how will you avoid punishing existing residents (mostly drivers) through financial penalties. Many people will be unable to afford to change their lifestyle (work etc).

Encoutage more public transport use, cheap fares and car sharing initiatives etc to improve our air quality. We already know there are areas in Medway above the national average of poor quality. More trees and green walls needed to absorb emissions. In Brazil an artist painted a huge mural on the side of a building with a paint that absorbs CO2 so use of similar materials would help with air quality. I do feel however that the new house building targets are going to make things worse. Arriva need to move to electric and stop using second hand diesel buses.

If you wish to have clean air and protect the environment of the Medway towns, then it is essential that you do not "close in" or "reduce" the green corridors that exist in Medway. They are loved and appreciated by us. There is a risk of turning Medway into on giant urban sprawl by filling in these gaps that we have left. Please do not do that, we need these gaps for our health and wellbeing. We feel they belong to us and are part of our heritage as much as the river Medway, the dockyard and historic Rochester are.

Improve air quality and put in place new roads to cope with the new developments along with all other infrastructure first, then see what our housing capacity could be.
Lets clean up the environment first and them build the new houses, otherwise this will never happen. And our Council will have failed us.

I have found the use of wood burners in homes to have had a more significant adverse affect on my health than traffic pollution. I thought I lived in a clean air zone. This seems to be more focused on coal but the domestic wood burner is a significant problem. This is both for the residents within the home as well as the neighbours breathing in the exhaust fumes.

More trees are required on streets to help provide routes for wildlife and shade for residents. The island in Strood that was recently done had three trees planted and two have been destroyed. The tree outside our building fell down and was not replaced. The tree on the other side of the road died and was not replaced.

Good air quality is fully dependant upon removing fossil fuels. No new development, both housing and industrial, should be allowed unless:
* all roofs are used to the full for the installation of PV solar panels
* fossil fuel boilers can only be fitted where NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE IS POSSIBLE
* When Passiv Haus standards are not reached, housing developers agree to provide funds to the Local Authority to improve insulation in existing properties

Air quality in Medway is affected by regional and national factors outside our control such as prevailing winds. Consideration should be given to banning (not taxing) the most polluting vehicles using Medway's Roads. Measures to change how we heat our homes and provide energy for industry should be done pragmatically taking into account likely impact on cost to individuals and businesses and the economic costs.

As a health professional I take CO readings on a daily basis of pregnant women. A high level of CO is often recorded at levels which have a significant detrimental impact on the mother and the developing and growing unborn child. Pregnant women are fearful and extremely concerned about this.
The plan does not address the consequences of poor air quality which will increase to levels that place people at risk of cause of illness and death.

Building in Allhallows would drastically increase the number of cars on the road, as residents rely on vehicles for basic travel, with Strood 9 miles away, making it an 18-mile round trip. The lack of public transport and inadequate infrastructure means car dependency will persist, significantly impacting air quality. Additionally, the sewage system has been beyond capacity for decades, causing a constant smell of sewage in the air, which I’ve experienced for almost 21 years. Frequent emergency repairs do not address the root issue—overcapacity—worsening the problem and further diminishing air quality in the area.

Although I support this policy, I cannot understand why no reference has been included regarding the role of Green Belt and National Landscape sites in improving Air Quality. And, in particular, no reference is made to crop spraying in these areas.

Air quality should be given greater emphasis and AQM are no use unless improvement is seen to take place. Air quality should be measured more widely and transparently e.g. in the Paddock, The Brook. Results must be recorded on the Medway Council website. The DEFRA threshold for new builds generating traffic which exceeds the current threshold should be challenged as they are almost impossible to fail

The air quality team at Medway have been underfunded and their policies have had no backup from the rest of the council and are hence ineffective. This places the health of Medway's residents at risk. The team should be properly backed by senior management and then they would not produce such weak policy documents full of ifs, buts and maybes which are never implemented.

Agri/Viniculture use of fertilizer and pesticides needs more attention. Slurry and waste products from agri/viniculture operations should be recognised as a source and monitored and managed to avoid negative impacts on communities and wildlife.

Is Medway able to liaise closely with Maidstone over the air quality from the Lidsing Development? That will also be Medway's air quality!
Presumably neither the Gibraltar Farm nor the Lidsing Development conform to reducing the need for private transport to reduce emissions and their impacts.

There is nothing wrong with the air quality in Medway, any suggestion there is sounds like a possible move towards a revenue raising scheme such as a ULEZ which I am sure is attractive to a cash strapped council. If developers want to install low NO2 boilers that is their prerogative although I believe it is already law that developers cannot install boilers as from next year 2025. Wood fires are lovely and well used in winter, probably will be more so with the fuel price increase. Pensioners will probably be burning books with their fuel allowance removed.
