Essential that there is a market need and it is not simply for the benefit of the business owner whilst it must not impact adversely on similar operations ie it must add to the local economy and does not adversely effect the environment or Green Spaces or National landscapes.

In respect of Policy T13, we are mindful that St Andrews Lakes has become a very successful leisure and tourism destination. Our one concern is that the Green Belt designation may result in what is a fantastic potential resource being underutilised to the detriment of Medway residents. We would ask the Council to consider whether in view of the fact that the site now very much relates to the built up area of Halling, and in view of the enormous leisure potential that the the site has, it ought to be removed from the Green Belt.

Nowhere in this document has Haven Kent Coast been mentioned as a site of holiday accommodation and a visitor destination. This site attracts an enormous turnover of holidaymakers in addition to people who own caravans and spend all their holidays there. This site has permission for 1400 caravan pitches and has yet to reach that total. There has also been no mention of how it affects village resources e.g. water, sewage and electricity

With the rich historical heritage that Medway has we must do everything to promote door Diverse Medway.
I think the closing of the tourist information office in Rochester was a big mistake considering the value of the the
Tourist trade in Rochester and rest of Medway.

Recognise and support the fabric of the natural assets across land and estuarine areas to promote the area for sustainable tourism. Tranquillity, dark skies and rural isolation are valuable assets that can attract and increase visitors seeking sustainable tourism. Good food, walking, cycling and water based activity should factor in this and be encouraged in the local plan. Prevent and avoid negative impacts from inappropriate development in protected areas.

The council needs to focus on promoting tourism that genuinely benefits the local area. In Allhallows, the Haven Holiday Park has brought chaos rather than positive impacts. Despite ongoing issues like crime—ranging from money laundering to violent incidents—and a significant rise in car accidents involving park visitors, the park continues to expand unchecked. The increase in antisocial behaviour and traffic problems has made the village less safe. It’s essential that tourism development enhances local well-being and safety, rather than exacerbating existing issues.

I would like to see promotion of our tourist sites all year around rather than seasonal. The closure of the Rochester information centre is a waste since the building is in use anyway for the Hugenot Museum, surely this could be used to better promote the Towns. There is not much to offer for the tourist browsing the Towns; Rochester high street is full of charity shops and cafes; Chatham has poundshops and mobile phone outlets and Gillingham is in a similar situation. A better provision to encourage browsing is needed. Look at tourist town centres.

It is really important that rural tourism reflects the sensitivity of the natural environment to safeguard its special features.
It is vital to retain areas of countryside that are not tourist areas, have not been urbanised, or manicured; that one can experience areas of countryside without having to pay for the experience.
