Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Spatial Development Strategy

Representation ID: 2521

Received: 05/09/2024

Respondent: Mr John Rodney Smyth

Representation Summary:

"Chatham will provide the primary centre function for Medway ... ". Does Medway need a single centre for the 5 towns (6, including Hoo) ? All have discrete identities. Specifically, reviving Chatham into an attractive centre for the 5/6 seems a heroic task - currently, the High Street is dismal.

3.2.1

Representation ID: 2523

Received: 05/09/2024

Respondent: Mr John Rodney Smyth

Representation Summary:

Reluctantly, I support SGO3 (Blended), as a compromise - ideally, SGO1 (Urban Focus).

Under SGO3, the maximum expansion of Allhallows is 705 houses, including only AS21 and 23 - roughly doubling the current population.

Restricting AS21 westwards to a line due north of Stoke Road would neatly reduce this.

Policy S4: Landscape protection and enhancement

Representation ID: 2524

Received: 05/09/2024

Respondent: Mr John Rodney Smyth

Representation Summary:

Unclear whether the North Kent marshes SLA designation is still in force.

In any event, the NK marshes should be given at least as strong protection under the updated Medway LCA.

Their landscape is uniquely attractive - and, for example, renewable energy development (e.g., a wind farm) would ruin it.

Policy S25: Energy Supply

Representation ID: 2533

Received: 05/09/2024

Respondent: Mr John Rodney Smyth

Representation Summary:

Clearly state renewable development includes wind farms, isolated wind turbines and solar farms.

On the Hoo Peninsula, any wind development away from industrial Grain/Kingsnorth would probably have an adverse landscape/visual impact on the area's wide open aspect.

Solar farms should not entail loss of productive farmland or valuable natural habitat.
