Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy S1: Planning for Climate Change
Representation ID: 3850
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Hilary Savage
I am concerned about keeping the countryside as unspoilt as possible. It is so important to have the AONB surrounding Cuxton as a green unspoilt place for people to enjoy. It is vitally important for our mental health to have views to enjoy and countryside to walk in. The bird, insect and wildlife populations are critically important to human health and wellbeing. Dark skies and absence of light pollution are also of vital importance and in danger of being lost forever. The rural areas of Medway mustn’t be forgotten, and they mustn’t be nibbled away bit by bit.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy S2: Conservation and Enhancement of the Natural Environment
Representation ID: 3868
Received: 08/09/2024

While accepting that Medway needs to develop areas of new housing, it is important to confine these to urban and brownfield sites without encroaching further into rural areas already lacking in local amenities.
Business owners, such as Silverhand must not be allowed to create a winery on AONB and Metropolitan Greenbelt land. It is a vanity project and is totally unnecessary and in an unsuitable location. It would be much more suitable in an area such as Medway City Estate.
I cannot stress how important it is to retain the peace and tranquility of our natural landscape and environment.

I strongly agree that Medway’s policies must reflect the importance of ALL the wonderful areas of Medway’s Natural Landscape Areas. especially around the rural villages and communities. People need, and will continue to need, the diversity that the natural countryside has to offer.

I am happy that Medway’s stated policy is to protect and conserve the AONB and the Metropolitan Greenbelt.
The area around Cuxton and Upper and Lower Bush, as well as Ranscombe Farm, run by Plantlife, are all areas of exceptional natural beauty and it is crucial that they remain unspoilt. They deserve the highest possible protection.
