Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Supporting people to lead healthy lives and strengthening our communities

Representation ID: 3867

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

This is not housing needs of Medway residents as the increased housing is being occupied by people moving to Medway as they are not able to afford homes in London. What protections are in place to ensure that the new housing is for Medway residents?

I was not able to identify the proposed support for the gypsy and traveller communities as highlighted. Where are the new sites going to be for this currently there is only one in Medway on a disused car park, this does not provide security for them and still marginalises them to the other residents.

Spatial Development Strategy

Representation ID: 3874

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

This is counter productive as there is a need for balance between developing better linked to Hoo and not destroy natural resources in this plan. What protections are in place to prevent arable land and other green spaces being "redeveloped"?

Policy S1: Planning for Climate Change

Representation ID: 4052

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

Water treatment comment, food production, transport links and pricing and what does this - Provision of decentralised energy and heating mean?

Full text:

Planning for better links to other areas within Medway is great on paper however the cost of these services will not make these a viable option for most. School bus prices are a prime example of this. How are you going to support local people to access these public transport over the use of their cars.

What is meant by this - Provision of decentralised energy and heating?

You have prioritised promoting local food production however large pieces of arable land across Medway are being approved for planning of more housing, how can you do both of these things?

Managing water resources are also highlighted, currently we are having to reuse our water, causing high levels of chlorine which is now part of our drinking water. How will you prevent this becoming more evident?

Policy S2: Conservation and Enhancement of the Natural Environment

Representation ID: 4060

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

I disagree with the strategy for developments compensating loss of environments, habitats, and biodiverse areas. We have already seen the marring of sites like these which have been passed with "mitigations and compensations" which prioritise development over our already struggling eco systems, further S106 money is not a suitable compensation.

Policy S3: North Kent Estuary and Marshes designated sites

Representation ID: 4065

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

Compensatory schemes are useless to the wildlife as that habitat will be destroyed and this can not successfully be replaced. We are essentially prioritising the people over the habitat which was not ours to begin with.

Policy DM1: Flood and Water Management

Representation ID: 4086

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Miss Sarah Tyler

Representation Summary:

Flood water management on the estuary at Rainham needs to be considered as the new developments have needed to retrofit drainage as this has been impact by the heavy rain, why would more developments there be explored if there is such a risk to these properties and damage to the coastline?
Where are the grey water and rain water recycling be implemented?
What improvements and developments will be made to the current water treatment facilities which are already being impacted by the growing population?
