Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

3.2.1

Representation ID: 4113

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Lincoln Ritchie

Representation Summary:

I support the blended regeneration strategy. Prioritising brownfield sites first is key to protecting green spaces like those on the peninsula while enabling growth. However, I would like to emphasise my desire to lean more towards an urban focus as, to me, that seems to be the most efficient use of space, enabling accessibility and support for those who rely on public transport. I also feel that it would better support the development of affordable housing for younger people and families who are dependent on transport and access to areas such as London and towns surrounding Medway.

Policy S1: Planning for Climate Change

Representation ID: 4133

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Lincoln Ritchie

Representation Summary:

It is essential to prioritise development that enhances access to services and integrates walking and cycling infrastructure. I would also LOVE to see rail infrastructure on the Hoo Peninsula to reduce car dependency and improve accessibility. The emphasis on green infrastructure and managing flood risks, particularly in areas like Hoo, is key to ensuring climate resilience. I also encourage incorporating Passivehaus design principles to maximise efficiency in new developments.

Policy DM4: Noise and Light Pollution

Representation ID: 4139

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Lincoln Ritchie

Representation Summary:

I have been fortunate to enjoy the beauty of the night sky on the peninsula and I wish for others to experience it in the same way. I have been able to see things as simple as the ISS moving overhead to the clear glow of the aurora Borealis and the Perseid meteor shower from this year. Thus, I would like greater attention on reducing light pollution, particularly near sensitive areas like RSPB sites and Cliffe Pools, to protect wildlife and preserve dark skies.

Policy S5: Securing Strong Green and Blue Infrastructure

Representation ID: 4152

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Lincoln Ritchie

Representation Summary:

I like the emphasis on rights of way, cycle routes, and riverside access. These protect biodiversity but also boost public health.

However, while important, similar requirements should apply to smaller projects to ensure consistency across the whole of Medway. we need to put more emphasis on how retrofitting urban areas will be incentivised and delivered. These areas often face the greatest need for improvement.

Policy T1: Promoting High Quality Design

Representation ID: 4157

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mr Lincoln Ritchie

Representation Summary:

Ensuring new developments meet national space standards and prioritise natural light is essential for creating healthy living environments. I particularly appreciate the focus on adaptable homes and the inclusion of natural features like green walls and rooftop gardens, which align with my support for sustainable building practices. I would encourage even more emphasis on Passivehaus standards to enhance energy efficiency further, as well as promoting communal spaces in developments without large gardens to foster social connections.
