Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Spatial Development Strategy

Representation ID: 2019

Received: 18/08/2024

Respondent: Francesca Baylis

Representation Summary:

I greatly support the councils commitment to retaining the metropolitan greenbelt, I hope that this protection greatly considers not just current potential harm, but future harm considering the lower Thames crossing and its impact on air quality in the area, where the green belt will be so desperately needed.

I greatly support the increase in rail connections across Medway to contribute to a more connected public transport network.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

3.2.1

Representation ID: 2020

Received: 18/08/2024

Respondent: Francesca Baylis

Representation Summary:

I accept the preferred option but on the condition that brownfield is still considered first. There runs a risk that developers will all rush for the greenfield sites because they are easier to complete rather than those brownfields that may need some environmental remediation work done beforehand. I urge the council to ensure that this plan doesn't end with all of the considered greenfield sites built on but only some of the brownfield.

Policy S2: Conservation and Enhancement of the Natural Environment

Representation ID: 2022

Received: 18/08/2024

Respondent: Francesca Baylis

Representation Summary:

I agree with the principles laid out here, but would push for the council to require ecological assessment at multiple points in the year. While animal activity is more commonly found throughout the year, many plants are only visible at certain times (especially orchids, the Lady orchid being one of the priority species) and so can be easily missed if a survey is completed in winter or late autumn.

Policy S6: Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Landscape

Representation ID: 2023

Received: 18/08/2024

Respondent: Francesca Baylis

Representation Summary:

Development within an AONB should not be permitted outside of existing settlements/buildings. The AONB is about preserving these areas for public good and for future generations, if development is for business or private housing then this should not be acceptable as its damaging a public good with no public benefit in return.

I agree with the councils position of restricting development within the green belt. It is so important, especially with the increasing sprawl of developments on the Medway boundary.

Could there also be a policy to keeping them in good condition? The billboards along Cuxton road in Strood are often peeling off and look an eyesore. So could this be a condition of development of new billboards?

Policy T3: Affordable Housing

Representation ID: 2027

Received: 18/08/2024

Respondent: Francesca Baylis

Representation Summary:

Would argue that is be 35% of greenfield due to the massive efflux of young people from rural areas due to not being about to afford housing. This will also encourage developers to work with brownfield sites where they can get a higher profit.
