Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy S6: Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Landscape
Representation ID: 2937
Received: 06/09/2024
Respondent: Mr Paul Pattison
I support this policy but would add that any medium-large scale development is viewed as a last resort, and only when it can be shown conclusively to be in the national interest by virtue of its importance to national infrastructure or to be of exceptional economic importance.

Policy S4: Landscape protection and enhancement
Representation ID: 2949

I support this policy but it needs teeth. Areas of Medway with outstanding landscape character are being eroded through inappropriate use e.g. a) small rural lanes being used routinely by HGV traffic, leading to erosion of verges and hedge banks b) persistent fly-tipping. More active interventions are therefore required.

Policy S8: Historic Environment

I'm not sure that Medway has a Heritage Strategy, other than in draft form, nor a list of non-designated Heritage Assets. Under these circumstances it can only have an ad-hoc approach to the Historic Environment. Medway needs to take a much more pro-active stance in listing, conserving, and promoting its heritage, and not simply in its response to development.
