Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy T2: Housing Mix
Representation ID: 1881

To have Affordable Housing on developments of only 10 or more means 99% of developments will have Affordable Housing. This is too low a number. Sadly ‘Affordable Housing’ is rarely maintained as it could and should be and this is unfair to the private owners who have paid a top price for their property and want to keep the area looking as it should. This is not snobbery as I was bought up on a Council Estate where fortunately my parents looked after their property. Therefore the minimum number of units should be raised before ‘Affordable Housing’ is built.

I appreciate more areas are needed for the travelling community which would hopefully stop them setting up illegally elsewhere. But sadly they are usually a law unto themselves and leave sites in a mess with no worries of being prosecuted. Do these current and proposed sites give Medway Council the power to prosecute, if necessary, via some form of registration on arrival of the site. Are they charged and do they pay for utilities that I assume are available whilst there.

Small or large sites are not needed on the Hoo Peninsula anymore. We have had more than our quota over the years and without any infrastructure being added to cope with these developments. No extra doctors or dentists. There is an extra primary school but HOH secondary is bursting at the seams with no thought in where parents would park when taking and collecting their children. Main Road has become a joke before and after school hours. Grass verges churned up. What parking facilities are going to be put in place ?

Finally Hoo Sports Centre is in desperate need of a refurbishment. The pool is never emptied and cleaned anymore. Nothing has changed since my children were school age over 15 years ago ! Can I have an update on this please
