Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Supporting people to lead healthy lives and strengthening our communities

Representation ID: 1828

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

Houses need to be low cost for our local housing need, not for the construction industry to build for profit. Most new build housing is well over most local peoples budgets therefore encouraging more people from outside the area ( not a bad thing) but pushing the local residents out. What about council housing?
More bungalows for the downsizers and disabled.
To encourage cycling we need complete cycles lanes.
Reduce takeaways, only agree a certain number a year. Make it harder to obtain a takeaway to encourage home cooking
Free cooking lessons?

Better hospital facilities.
Better , cheaper more reliable local transport to reduced the need to use the car, for example taking children to school, perhaps invest in school buses, reducing the need for parents to drive them to school?

Policy T1: Promoting High Quality Design

Representation ID: 1832

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

High Quality usually means high price, not affordable homes.
Greenery great but who will maintain it, will these developments have stipulations on what a resident can or can't do to improve their home ( extend for example)
Parking ????? why is this not mentioned, Clear your vision for the end of the Car, what about disabled developments??No mention of homes for them

it all sound like a utopia vision, but in reality will it actually be achievable.

Policy DM5: Housing Design

Representation ID: 1833

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

Your vision for long term living, that a home will be for life, no need to move then I would assume that these new developments will have taken into consideration things like wider doors, possible adaptations in the future if the resident has a disability.

Level access into and from the house, like no raised front doors or raised access into the gardens or outside space.

Policy T2: Housing Mix

Representation ID: 1834

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

More medium sized homes for families or even bungalows for the older generation as this will free up the family 3 bed styles homes already built.
As we know if an older person or couple want to downsize at this moment there are not enough available smaller homes / bungalow for sale, so therefore staying put in the family home thus not helping the housing market move around.

Representation ID: 1835

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

including these housing solution are a great idea if you have the income to pay of the property in the first place and also the monthly ground rent and service charges that these company ask for. Has this been taken into consideration?
Not every Medway older person has this amount of disposable income, again only attracting from outside the local area.
What are these residents supposed to do?

Policy S21: Rainham District Centre

Representation ID: 1837

Received: 21/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Emma Rouse

Representation Summary:

Unfortunately the biggest problem is lack of Banks in Rainham, once with every bank / building society within its busy high street / precinct made for more footfall. with very little shops of good quality this town is going to fall to the way side. Too many charity shops and sunbed / aesthetic shop it no wonder no one goes to Rainham. Council needs to re invest in this local economy .
Cycles link and green spaces is not the answer. encouragement of more business to the area is needed

What is the reason to go to Rainham really?
