Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Vision for Medway in 2041
Representation ID: 1859
Received: 24/07/2024
Respondent: Mr Steve Morris
The Priority for Medway must be to regenerate the area and encourage investment. This will done via improvements in infrastructure to attract businesses, tourism and residents. The key to this is integration of the networks and making Medway business friendly. Additional road access is critical to the Medway City Estate. It is a bottle neck at present and this will discourage businesses from locating in the vicinity.
There is no mention in the plans on vehicle network improvement, only walking and cycling

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Prepared for a sustainable and green future

There is no Climate Emergency. There is plenty of evidence to disprove this and too many public bodies are wasting taxpayers money on projects that will have no effect or bearing on the climate but make the bodies management feel better about themselves.
I am concerned that the Council will look at walking and cycling networks to the detriment of everything else. This could discourage the critical investment and businesses needed. An integrated network is required to include ALL modes of transportation, including use of the Medway River.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Securing jobs and developing skills for a competitive economy

Boosting the economy is a priority in my view. The encouragement of business which will generate taxes and alsop jobs will encourage people to spend in the local economy. However, the poor roads network through the towns and in particular the Medway City Estate could discourage this. Infrastructure improvements are vital.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Vision for Access and Movement in Medway
Representation ID: 1862

The Consultation states there has been reduced car dependency through accessibility, but this is not my experience. The local bus service is unreliable and expensive. The alternative's are taxis/uber or trains. Again these options are expensive in comparison. Not everyone can cycle and most tradesmen cannot use cycles to work.
I would suggest that the vehicle network is not overlooked or investment may be limited. Ido the Council is not contemplating an LEZ which is nothing more than a revenue generating system that would anger the residents.

Policy DM17: Grain Branch

The introduction of a Grain Branch line would be welcome. Whether or not this is feasible, Network Rail would have to assess. I have my doubts a passenger service could be under utilised but i hope i am wrong. Pricing at an affordable level would assist.
An improved bus service is also unsustainable without adequate usage. They journeys i suspect are the towns and Medway City Estate. There is significant congestion on and off the estate due to poor network connections and only 1. This must have serious implications on air quality, Any alternative access must be a priority
