Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

3.2.1

Representation ID: 1989

Received: 13/08/2024

Respondent: Mrs Michaela James

Representation Summary:

Tend to agree with SGO 3 as a preferred option, but will requre necessary options to support sustainable travel and accessibility for all and the associated amenities for a community to avoid excess extra travel. Will cost of utlity connections and road network access affect affordability for the more remote locations and accessibility to senior schools, medical facilities. There seems to be more on the Isle if Grain, which has important migrating habitat locations. Assume sea level rising wouldn't require excessive expenditure for flood defence for the option chosen and impact of additional hardstanding.

Policy S1: Planning for Climate Change

Representation ID: 1990

Received: 13/08/2024

Respondent: Mrs Michaela James

Representation Summary:

Cycle and walking routes ideally need to be away from traffic, not adjacent too. Footpaths need to be accessible to all footpath users and not blocked by inconsiderate parking. Routes should be litter free as this is a negative for the benefits of well being if walking and cycling.

Water resources/efficiency measures should not just be on new builds but encouraged across all homes, and measures to reduce hardstanding run off through capture or alternative permeable coverage encouraged.

Policy DM1: Flood and Water Management

Representation ID: 1993

Received: 13/08/2024

Respondent: Mrs Michaela James

Representation Summary:

Need to consider the longer term. Developers can incorporate water efficiencies, etc but people may swap these out and add to hardstanding with patios, etc. Rules around properties and enforcement are needed to ensure good measures are not later replaced with bad.
Run off should be captured and/or kept separate from waste. Education of public. Are there measures around houseboats and waste?
