Medway Local Plan (Regulation 19, 2025)
Policy S1: Planning for Climate Change
Representation ID: 4673
Received: 08/08/2025
Respondent: Mrs Ruth Dyke
This is a vital part of the plan, but allowing homes to be built on land which currently is used for fruit growing in Rainham seems to be at odds with this policy. To advocate removal of thousands of trees in the same document as this policy is just not joined up thinking.

This may be a smaller proposal than that dismissed at appeal, but it will still mean the removal of thousands of trees and a fundamental change to the character of the area. There will be a decrease in air quality, increased light pollution and noise, it will add to water stress loosing trees which absorb rain and replacing with houses which increase run off and loss of water to the soil. This development will add to problems leading to increased climate change.

The use of local lanes will still mean the majority of traffic using Lower Rainham Road to exit the Lower Rainham area. This road is already extremely busy and forms a boundary to Riverside Country park so there are many places where pedestrians cross and an increase in traffic will be detrimental to the enjoyment of this park.
