No general Article 4 Direction exists to allow proper public consultation, objections by local residents and permitting councillors to vote on an application in areas such as applications for Lawful Development Certificates. A general Article 4 Direction would remove this loophole and allow the Council's own Planning Policies to be used as grounds for refusal. This protection is in place in many other local authority areas but not in Medway and allows unscrupulous developers and others to take advantage to the detriment of Medway's tax paying residents.
