There needs to be a postive retail development strategy for Chatham and Gillingham. This goes beyond a mere hierarchy of place. There needs to be a strategy for car parking enabling clearly designated areas for car parking linked to promoting an increase in retail activity. Medway Council has been inclined to sell off car parks because of historical use. Future changes such as increased town centre populations needs to be planned for.
