How will City status for Medway help the poorest residents who are struggling to feed themselves and their children? How will it help the homeless and all those residents of Medway that are least able to help themselves? The ambition of having a City of Medway appears as an expensive vanity project, and distraction from the real task in hand, which is to focus on people. The very notion of establishing Medway as a city undermines the distinct character and unique history of the towns and villages that presently make up the Unitary Authority of Medway.
