Cycle networks will not take into account the topography of the area. Cycling around Lordswood, Walderslade, Chatham and Rochester is pretty much reserved for the fittest.

We all went green spaces so we need to preserve what we’ve got and and create more. We need to have a travel system similar to Transport for London where we can tap in and tap out or combined travel tickets. We also need to consider our special needs and disabilities and diverse communities to make travel and access easier. It would be good to have a tram system too especially connecting outlying areas enabling them to engage with Medway night time economy. This would make public transport more convenient.and ultimately more popular.

First it was disturbing to see the amount of paper forms and booklets at the exhibition. Paper is a toxic commodity, even recycled and vegetable inks.
Second, car travel is not a choice but a necessity for shift workers, personal carers, volunteers who deliver supplies and many others.

Third, whilst buses are plentiful in the town centres, they are infrequent and unreliable at the edges. This won't entice people on to them.
Finally the idea of reinvigorating high streets for shopping is nonsense. Empty shops should be turned back into houses as they were originally.

There is no Climate Emergency. There is plenty of evidence to disprove this and too many public bodies are wasting taxpayers money on projects that will have no effect or bearing on the climate but make the bodies management feel better about themselves.
I am concerned that the Council will look at walking and cycling networks to the detriment of everything else. This could discourage the critical investment and businesses needed. An integrated network is required to include ALL modes of transportation, including use of the Medway River.
There is no Climate Emergency. There is plenty of evidence to disprove this and too many public bodies are wasting taxpayers money on projects that will have no effect or bearing on the climate but make the bodies management feel better about themselves.

I would like to request that the council work to create darker skies than we now have.
Darker skies require an adjustment in the way we use lighting. This can be cheaper at the construction phase than ordinary lighting and saves money everywhere it used.
It also is good for our health, good for wildlife and biodiversity, reduces crime, and is good for science and amateur astronomers.

To address the Climate Emergency we need more trees. Trees do not have enough protection and there is little or no effort to reforest. Medway Council/previous governments, with their obsession for building, have allowed swathes of woodland to be removed and replaced with housing.
In Walderslade, in summer I notice that the temperature showing on my car drops by 3 or 4 degrees Celsius when driving through the area of woodland around Boxley Road. Trees and woodland are essential for adapting to climate change and capture carbon. So increase and enhance our woodland! Turn countryside into woodland, not housing!

I am wholeheartedly behind retaining as much green space as possible, because once it is gone, it's gone, but I understand the need for more housing. However, not only are we creeping onto green space, but more and more homes are cementing over gardens for parking. Land with one house and a garden, is being rebuilt with flats and more parking, no greenery. More and more cars.
I would like to see a commitment to planting more trees. They are so important to reducing pollution and noise, and providing oxygen and water. Trees help mitigate the concrete and the cars.

By building on green fields you are removing valuable agricultural land. No credible provision for additional water supplies can be seen in the plan other that providing lip service. Local flooding in some areas is already an issue

As a resident of Gillingham all of my life I enjoy the green spaces I.e Riverside country park. There are a vast amount of native habitat and mammals co existing with ever increasing traffic. Please please consider our green spaces I want my grandchildren to be able to continue fishing and watching wildlife during the school holidays. I do not want them to risk their lives trying to cross a lower Rainham road that is getting increasingly dangerous. Will someone from the council come and observe the chaos on a daily basis

My concern with this plan is the damage to the environment.
The proposed areas for development result in isolation of Capstone Valley green corridor. This area includes ancient woodland and important habitats, whilst also providing vital outdoor space for our people. Surrounding natural habitats isolates flora and fauna populations resulting in an inevitable decline in their health an viability.
We need houses, but we also need to protect high quality green space. This plan fails to protect the latter and is far too tolerant of developers preference to build unaffordable housing, which will also not solve our housing crisis.

There is no way sustainable transport, greener issues will be solved by further development on the Hoo peninsular. Allhallows in particular is a small village that will be destroyed if the population is increased by the amount of houses planned.

Allhallows in particular is a small village that will be destroyed if the population is increased by the amount of houses planned. The two roads used by villagers to enter and exit the village are totally unsafe. There has been many fatal accidents over the 47 years I have lived in Allhallows, there are two dangerous S bends and in winter snow drifts form on the roads. The village has been cut off from the outside world many times, indeed we have had helicopters land to provide us with medicines and food in the past. The water mains are constantly breaking down as are the sewage pipes. The pumping station at the bottom of Binney Road is always causing problems.

This really means a radical shake up of our road infrastructure to ensure it has shared space for all forms of clean transport so it is safe to use for all and this again needs to be policed to ensure is maintained each day. Clear pathways, good serviced footpaths and cycle ways, also cars will be needed for those that can't use public transport. Public transport needs to be frequent, clean and affordable.

An improvement to school transport needs to be made. As an example I am driving my diesel car to 2 separate schools because the options for public transport are either too expensive or not suitable. I realise I am both adding to pollution and traffic congestion but I see no reasonable alternative at the moment. I am also not in a position to change my car currently to an electric alternative which is something I wish to do in the future.

The Council has set out its strategic objectives at Section 2.2 of the Local Plan which feed into the Vision and are grouped into four sections: “Prepared for a sustainable and green future”; “Supporting people to lead healthy lives and strengthening our communities”; “Securing jobs and developing skills for a competitive economy”; and “Boost pride in Medway through quality and resilient development”. Similarly, BDW is broadly supportive of the overall objectives set out in the emerging Local Plan. There are significant questions, however, as to how the Plan aligns with these objectives.

As set out in detail later within these representations, the spatial strategy is not positively prepared, evidenced, justified or consistent with national policy, as required by the NPPF.

Wanting to build on the flood plains is not going to be well received and shall increase the flood risks especially if the climate is to change on the current reports. This is going to require serious consideration and thought. Likewise, trying to stem carbon emissions will not be greatly achieved if you build on farmers land. We are not London. We are part of the garden of England which rapidly seems to be the carpark of the South East.

You cannot preserve the countryside that is concreted over and roads in this area are not safe nor suitable for sustainable travel unless of course the council plans to concrete over the lanes as well. It is unclear from the maps included with this document whether the Capstone Valley is included in all 3 options but if it is, it should be removed from the plans.
