Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)
Prepared for a sustainable and green future

Would like to see renewable energy (preferably community owned) mentioned here. We need to incoporate identifying land for renewable energy e.g. onshore wind farms to ensure that planning permission is granted for such schemes. The Local PLan should be a net zero plan. The plan should recognise how the climate and nature crises are interlinked and addressing these is crucial for the well-being of Medway residents -everything should be done through the lens of achieving net zero, protecting and enhancing nature and reducing inequality.

All new housing should be carbon negative. There is no excuse for building new housing that doesn't meet this standard. Would like to see more social housing and retrofitting provided (and priroitised) for those on lower incomes to help tackle in equality.

Be good to see a focus on green growth. Innovation on how we can reach net zero and make dwellings carbon neutral/negative.

There needs to be an understanding of what any new targets may look like in the event that we have a Labour Government. I STRONGLY oppose Medway Council to stand up for Medway and object to this figures which DO NOT reflect the local need for Medway. It is "our" local plan and it should reflect what we need and want not what the volume house builders or central governement are pushing.

What will the council do if targets are advisory? Will they reduce targets to reflect ACTUAL need? Also, its imperative to have conversations with National Labour Party to be prepared for any changes they may make if they get power within the next year.

It will be good to see what Southern Water report as viability in terms of water supply. Any figures from Southern Water should be looked at carefully as we know there are water shortages and if there is not enough water to service new houses then viability needs to be seriously considered.

Feels like this scheme is lacking in proving sustainability and maybe should not be going ahead?

Is the Council having discussions with LTC planners. Seems like thinking is not joined up. Although do not support the level of housing development currently being planned for Medway (6 times more than needed).

This should be a clear "no". Medway is more densely populated than Gravesham. Medway should work with Gravesham to challenge unrealistic housing targets and fight for the needs of their residents.

It's not a high level of need. Its a high level of development which appears to be pushed by dominant and powerful developers through Central government and local government are complicit in enabling all the damage that will result to Medway residents and environment as a result.
