Representation Summary:

How land is allocated for development such as housing, employment and importantly for improved infrastructure, basic facilities such as doctors, dentists and schools. A new hospital is desperately needed, how will this be provided for. Also it should include where land is protected such as heritage designations and conservation areas and green buffers.

5.31

Representation ID: 1248

Received: 30/10/2023

Respondent: Ms Jane Cook

Representation Summary:

I think it's unrealistic to assume inappropriate developments of this scale, particularly in Rainham will provide opportunities for sustainable travel. It's clearly evident that the road network in Rainham is not coping with the strain of existing excessive housing building in the area. Further expansion would create stand still traffic along the lower road and A2. So far, developments in Rainham have not created any new services such as much needed doctors & dentists.

5.32

Representation ID: 1250

Received: 30/10/2023

Respondent: Ms Jane Cook

Representation Summary:

The land identified in Rainham north for potential suburban expansion is in active agricultural use, apple orchards. I don't think the land to the north of Rainham should be included in the LAA or in this consultation and I have concerns about its inclusion. An application (MC/19/1566) submitted in 2019 for major scale development was refused by Medway Council and the appeal was dismissed by the Secretary of State in 2021. Development of this area will cause significant harm as detailed in the Secretary of State's decision. I think this is an important point to include in the issues element.

Representation Summary:

I think it's important to address the additional burden of the potential 'Lidsing Garden Community' on Medway services and infrastructure. Building on this scale across Medway and the border of Maidstone will irreversibly change the landscape and character of this area.

Representation Summary:

The removal of infrastructure funding should be clearly addressed in issue and constraints. Large scale development of this scale without necessary infrastructure improvements will not work. The proposal for 1000's of homes in this area is unsustainable. How will residents access the 1 failing hospital in Medway?

Representation Summary:

Building on designated green belt land is irreversible. I think cross boroughs should support each other to protect this vital green lung. Once built on this changes the landscape and character forever. Significant weight should be attributed to the AONB.
