Proposal for Capstone would mean loss of valuable open space. Provides a green lung area of South Medway where wildlife can still thrive additionally allows capacity for countryside walks on public rights of way. Would result in South Medway being a continuous built up area.

It is understandable that one developer is actively promoting the Capstone option. The area around Capstone and Hempstead are popular places to live precisely because of the open space around them. Market demands should not be the be and end all of decisions which affect quality of life.

The area to the south of Medway is already built up to the boundaries with the exception of Capstone valley and the land out towards Lidsing. It provides a valuable recreation space by way of public rights of way through open countryside to the Kent Downs. Along with Capstone Country Park, Darland Banks it provides an area for wildlife to exist to an extent not possible elsewhere in the south of Medway. This is too valuable an asset to be lost to development.

Any development within Capstone/Hempstead will mean traffic for the M2 will have to go through Hempstead an already built up area with roads not designed for large volumes of traffic. Alterations to Junction 4 will not alter the fact all traffic wishing to join the M2 will have to go through Hempstead to join the A 278 to access the M2.

Prosper of development at Capstone attempted to alter previous local plan which was resisted. Has proposed land to Maidstone for 200 homes on the boundary. Cross Border Masterplan, who pays for what on this for services etc; which side of boundary are they placed? Medway council has resisted developments in Capstone Valley consistently. To allow development now completely repudiates the council's previous attitude to protecting a valuable area of open space in a crowded are of Medway. Environmental impact enormous. This land is offered for profit pure and simple. Detrimental affect far outweighs any benefits.
