The vision refers to countryside surrounding Medway. It is also important to stress the value of existing open spaces particularly Darland Banks/Valley and the Capstone Valley. This Green Corridor is vital for mental and physical well being of local residents and in practise has landscape ,ecology and biodiversity value not inferior to that of the adjacent North Downs AONB. This should be recognised and protected in the Local Plan. Any development in this area must respect the continuity of this open space corridor and avoid the coalescence of the existing urban areas of Lordswood and Hempstead.

Please see my comments relating to the Vision and the importance of the Darland and Capstone areas as a green corridor.
The areas to be considered for redevelopment are not very clear from the map but when considered together with development at Lidsing( Maidstone Local Plan) appear to include virtually every existing open space apart from the Country Park itself. The starting point for any development in this area must be a landscape and biodiversity lead approach that respects the importance of this vital green corridor and avoids the coalescence of the areas of Lordswood and Hempstead.

Development on greenfield sites are generally less sustainable than appropriate brown field sites in or adjacent to existing development and local transport hubs. Ease of building on greenfield sites must not be seen as an excuse for unsustainable development or unnecessary encroachment on the Countryside.
