Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

The plan's vision is to

Representation ID: 659

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

Medway is already overcrowded. More houses will further worsen quality of life for those already living here. We already need more hospitals, GP surgeries, etc, as what we have isn't adequate to cope with all the houses built in the last 10+ years. The roads also aren't adequate to deal with yet more people. They're already overcrowded with many bottlenecks just from the sheer volume of traffic on the roads, which will worsen if you keep building without first addressing these issues.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

Prepared for a sustainable and green future

Representation ID: 660

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

Trains and buses have cut down their timetable since covid. Even going to and from our capital city, trains stop running around 11pm. It's also expensive and poor value for money. Importantly, especially with strikes and delays, etc, it can't be relied upon. None of these things promote the use of public transport. Recycling needs to be made easier for residents. Many plastics used by supermarkets can't be recycled at home. It would be easier to allow residents to put everything recycleable out in 1 or 2 bins and people employed to sort through it back at the depot.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

Supporting people to lead healthy lives and strengthening our communities

Representation ID: 661

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

It appears as though medway Council is trying to kill off the High Street and local businesses. Charging for car parking, and raising prices so it's expensive discourages people from using the high street and local shopping centres. The lack of infrastructure and the sheer volume of traffic doesn't help either. Events are nice, but they're becoming very expensive, which makes it unaffordable for a large majority of residents (eg, £15 for 1 burger at the food festival). Travellers don't respect the local community and cost taxpayers far too much already without spending money building more sites for them.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

Boost pride in Medway through quality and resilient development

Representation ID: 662

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

You're massively failing with regard to building infrastructure. This must come first, before more building occurs. We used to have several hospitals meeting our needs when I was younger (eg, St Barts, All Saints, etc), but they've all been shut except for Medway, which now can't cope as the population has massively increased whilst the no. of services have decreased.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

5.1

Representation ID: 663

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

You need to stop using good agricultural land for building, and stop building out in the villages on the Hoo Peninsula where the road infrastructure just isn't there to support the number of cars. There's basically 1 road in and out and it isn't enough. Work needs to be completed on improving the number of roads, schools, dr. surgeries, etc, first before you build even more houses.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

5.3

Representation ID: 664

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

The lie of the land, the capacity to improve current infrastructure and the fact that Medway is already an area with a high number of people already struggling needs taking into account before any more building gets underway.
Medway police are underfunded and low level crime is rife, especially antisocial behaviour and burglaries.
These things need tackling first.

5.6

Representation ID: 665

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

It's an absolute farce that Medway haven't got a local plan already in place and that as it stands builder's can pretty much build anywhere they want. This has led to many unsuitable housing developments going ahead and this must be stopped.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

5.9

Representation ID: 666

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

Medway’s infrastructure must be improved before more housing is allowed to go ahead. It can already take over an hour to exit Medway City Estate in rush hour, and that's before the new development there, that's in the process of being built, adds to it.
It's the same all over the Medway towns and the Hoo peninsula.

5.39

Representation ID: 667

Received: 26/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Nicola Griesemann

Representation Summary:

Housing development here needs to stop. Part of Medway’s charm are the areas of green space and rural villages within 15 minutes of town. This is fast disappearing, eg, Hoo was once a lovely village, but it's now a sprawling monstrosity that keeps spreading out in all directions. If you keep going, there'll be no distinction between Hoo, High Halstow, Stoke, etc, and that would be a crying shame. It would also be a nightmare with traffic, schools, etc, as there are not enough roads or schools, etc, to support the people already living there, let alone 1000s more.

These things must come first, before yet more houses are built. Medway already can't cope with the sheer volume of traffic and no. of people living here. It already takes 4-8 weeks to get a routine GP appointment.
