Suburban Medway is already densely populated, and Gillingham and Rainham is the most densely populated constituency in the South East outside London. This option would further burden overstretched highways and local services and would lead to a further loss of precious remaining green spaces and countryside, including the best and most versatile agricultural land.

Bearing in mind the Government has now dropped formal targets for local authorities and the housing figure is now flexible, the council should only bring forward a local plan based on locally assessed need, and which can be delivered on a sustainable basis!
