Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

Prepared for a sustainable and green future

Representation ID: 1001

Received: 29/10/2023

Respondent: Mr PHILIP BADMAN

Representation Summary:

Referring to transport network, the A228 from Cuxton to Peters Bridge is already under stress, with even 3 times weekly blockages causing a rat run through the narrow Halling High Street. There should be no more development leading to increased traffic volumes along this section of road which is also already dangerous for cyclists and has narrow pavements and includes the acknowledged dangerous junction of Bush Road, Cuxton onto the A228. Similarly the Lower Rainham Road is narrow and already has high traffic volumes and further housing development should be ruled out along there.

Representation ID: 1002

Received: 29/10/2023

Respondent: Mr PHILIP BADMAN

Representation Summary:

In protecting the area's natural resources there should be no development in Medway's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) as along Bush Valley and around Upper Bush. This area has already been subjected to Planning Inspectorate study and rejected for development of winery and tourism facilities. AONB should afford the highest possible protection and any development suggestion should be rejected at the earliest possible stage.

5.7

Representation ID: 1004

Received: 29/10/2023

Respondent: Mr PHILIP BADMAN

Representation Summary:

National Highways modelling already forecasts increased traffic volumes along the A228 south from the M2 junction 2 through Halling as a result of the Lower Thames Crossing proposals. This road is already frequently severely congested, even 3 times weekly causing regular rat-running through the narrow Halling High Street, with frequent jamming and consequent driver arguments. A vehicle passage restriction should be considered for Halling High Street to improve the safety and quality of life of Lower Halling villagers. No more development along this section of the A228 should be countenanced as the road infrastructure is inadequate already.

Representation ID: 1139

Received: 30/10/2023

Respondent: Mr PHILIP BADMAN

Representation Summary:

Both the identified green belt potential development sites of adjacent to Upper Bush and at the Snodland/Halling border should be dropped. The Upper Bush nearby site is an area of absolute beauty and once lost cannot ever be regained. There is no logic to the proposed development there and consequent interference with the AONB. Both that site and the Snodland/Halling border are accessed via the A228 section running from the M2 junction to Peters Bridge. This road infrastructure is already over capacity as witness the frequent traffic jams and consequent rat-running through Halling and would not cope with more housing.
