a profit. It's particularly galling when the wrong type of housing is provided - high rise developments with high service charges are not the right kind of property for young families but they are the kind that attract property investors - who incidentally always start out with lovely developments but start adding floors and squeezing open spaces to make money. It would be reassuring to know that they won't be allowed to get away with it.
Construction jobs are temporary - what we really need are jobs generated by a thriving university and research sector.
Public transport needs to be a lot better if people are going to use their cars less. Bus services are particularly essential for non-drivers. However buses will not work any better than cars if the Council keeps allowing utilities to close whole roads.
On climate change, the fantastic river walkways already flood. Some thought needs to be given to hardening homes against raised sea levels.
Every city needs more trees and protection of open spaces.
