Connectivity needs to be localised as well as regional. We need to get people walking, cycling and onto good quality public transport if this is going to be achieved.

Sustainability relies on density. We need to increase density in the 5 core town centres in Medway. this will improve the sustainability in transport and energy efficiency.

I support this approach. Infrastructure must be in place first, however the funding needs to be secured through the applications. You can only deliver infrastructure first for large scale schemes- will the council be proposing any?
High quality- quality engineering is prevalent in the construction industry due to non material amendments. We need to have policies that dictate a design code therefore providing planning officers with the ability to object on policy grounds to the lowering of quality/ design.

Medway needs to deliver this amount of housing to meet the needs of the future (the definition of sustainability!). Density around transport hubs!
The figures are achievable if town centre masterplans are created. There're many under utilised spaces. There are many surface carparks. Chatham dockside retail park- could be 100s of homes with the parking managed in MSCPs. Alternatively, look at Rainham which has multiple car dealerships on the highstreet.
These businesses should be on industrial parks in Medway. The sites can then be filled with 3-4 storey homes/ apartment blocks in the local vernacular.

I hope that Medway doesn't delay implementing a Local plan for the sake of waiting on an NPPF update that was only promised by the PM to calm down back bench MPs. Medway deserves a Local Plan ASAP to control housing that gets approved BECAUSE Medway doesn't have a Local Plan.

We need innovative approaches to transport. We can't rely on the same old- otherwise Medway will only become more congested. It's poor planning of the past that needs remedying and I hope Medway council are up to the challenge.

Usually this would only be required when the neighbouring Authority can achieve their housing need? Such as the authorities around Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham which are capable of taking on the un met housing need.
Who will take on Medway's unmet need ?

Rainham centre could take some of this development- the precinct could be reimagined- the car park is huge! what a waste of space when we could have a nice 3-4 or 5 storey grid of kentish apartment style buildings with active ground floor and a proper town square.
