Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Policy DM2: Contaminated Land

Representation ID: 3901

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

I feel strongly that the MoD should take responsibility for land it has contaminated, particularly out at Chattenden, where it has been the sole user and contaminator. Sites should be restored to how they were before use.
The expense of decontamination should not mean that the site is left unresolved and contaminated for future generations to face.
If the Swiss Defence Department is offering a reward for ideas to retrieve 12,000 tonnes of old munitions from Swiss Lakes which they thought were safe and now know are not...this is less daunting. Government finance?

Policy DM3: Air Quality

Representation ID: 3912

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

Is Medway able to liaise closely with Maidstone over the air quality from the Lidsing Development? That will also be Medway's air quality!
Presumably neither the Gibraltar Farm nor the Lidsing Development conform to reducing the need for private transport to reduce emissions and their impacts.

Policy DM4: Noise and Light Pollution

Representation ID: 3928

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

Good to see this in a policy.
I would have liked the sentence at 4.11.1, 'The Council recognises the contribution of tranquillity to conserving the qualities of the North Downs National Landscape,' to be included in the policy.
The reversing alarm of a vineyard vehicle travels over huge distances through the tranquillity of the KDNL and frequently continues for many hours. Is there any provision within areas of tranquillity for requiring White Sound Reversing Alarms (approved by the Noise Abatement Society) be used, as part of this policy?

Policy S7: Green Belt

Representation ID: 3931

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

It would have been good to have recognised in the Policy statement that the section of Green Belt between Gravesham and Medway is the narrowest section of the entire Metropolitan Green Belt and therefore requires additional care; also to have stated in the Policy that the Council will continue to discuss Green Belt issues with neighbouring LPAs.

Policy T1: Promoting High Quality Design

Representation ID: 3944

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

Lots of excellent points.
Again, I fully approve of the use of trees and consider them a huge benefit, but the long-term maintenance cost has in the past led councils to remove them. Visually they make all the difference to a street.
If not enough parking is provided to make new developments not overly car-dominated, the area may end up appearing more car dominated because of random parking.
The final sentence 'compliance with the principles of nationally recognised standards...', should this take account of any of the Grenfell Tower recommendations?

Policy DM5: Housing Design

Representation ID: 3951

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

I am glad there is recognition of the limitations of quality of housing aver the last fifty years!
I definitely approve of the limit to North-facing single aspect homes and the provision of sufficient natural light.
Excellent points again.

Representation ID: 3980

Received: 08/09/2024

Scheduled monuments and archaeological sites are important in their own right, but like historic buildings, are fascinating to visit, giving time depth to the place.

Policy T2: Housing Mix

Representation ID: 4005

Received: 08/09/2024

Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray

Representation Summary:

A mix of accommodation is immensely important not just for the needs of the population, but for maintaining a healthy society. Isolated enclaves lead to divisions.
