Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy T3: Affordable Housing
Representation ID: 4038
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray
I am fully in favour of anything that can be done to provide affordable housing. My fear is that vast quantities of housing will be built, but Medway will still be left with young people, and not so young, unable to get anywhere near the housing ladder. Even affordable is not affordable.
I hope that the Council will fight really hard to keep affordable accommodation mixed in with other housing. It is very easy to lead to segregation with off-site delivery, and the subsequent social divisions.

This is both a nationwide problem and a national problem, which also requires staff - the very people that some members of society wish to keep out of the UK. A desperate situation for all councils.

Some student life within town centres would serve to revitalise the area, and also increase the need for food stores within the centre.

Policy T6: Mobile Home Parks
Representation ID: 4069
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Alison Gray
I can understand that there is a desire for mobile homes within the mix of accommodation, approve of bringing them under usual planning policy, but am unclear in the long term how they will tie in with a green energy-saving existence.
Seeking opportunities to enhance the design and visual impact on the surrounding area would be beneficial.

Policy T10: Gypsy, Travellers & Travelling Showpeople
Representation ID: 4125
Received: 08/09/2024

Whilst I accept there is concern not to show discrimination against, and a duty to accommodate, gypsies and travellers, in the interests of parity, the fulfilment of supplying affordable homes in the community as a percentage of Medway's need should equal the fulfilment of supplying gypsy pitches as a percentage of traveller need.
The Cuxton Caravan Park, which you have put for intensification, continually suffers from furniture, rubbish and waste being dumped from the bottom of the site on to the Public Footpath, and traveller horses being released onto other people's land, requiring the police to sort the situation.

Could you specifically include in this policy statement the statement from 7.9.14: Agriculture and rurally located businesses need to operate so as not to adversely impact on the integrity of Medway's international and national conservation designations.

It is really important that rural tourism reflects the sensitivity of the natural environment to safeguard its special features.
It is vital to retain areas of countryside that are not tourist areas, have not been urbanised, or manicured; that one can experience areas of countryside without having to pay for the experience.
