Gillingham Town Centre is now definitely included in the upcoming Local Plan, and the recent" Big Day Out" event showed just what Gillingham has to offer. However in the past it has been largely left behind in the development stakes. Wilko store is a large empty store, situated on a prime site open to vandalism. Banks closing do not help. For a high st including residents, there must be retail that attracts people to live and want to shop there.

When the new LIDL store was proposed in Gillingham, , the Sequential test was activated. There was nowhere for the LIDL store to go other that where it is now. This caused no end of arguments, and various Council meetings before it got the final go ahead.
Therefore, if this test has to go ahead , it must be very watertight and understood by all parties, because it took up so much time and effort.

What is happening to the GO Outdoors and the Gala Bingo sites? Pentagon has empty shops. Wilko site and others have been used for various market type events, and pop up Christmas shops. To advertise and promote the Pentagon as the main shopping site ,falls down a bit because not all the shops are being occupied. Once the top floor is up and running this will enhance the offer. Changing the toilets in the Pentagon is so much better.

Gillingham Town Centre can be so much better. The Town Centre plan has been in existence now for about 5years. The retail shopping area and the diverse shops that have sprung up since, have proved that there is a definite market for diversification.
Unfortunately the Halifax Bank is going to close , and this will as well as the empty Wilko store leave a large gap in the High St. Open to Vandalism .
A Public Realm space is needed to give the High St a sense of purpose. MACA are looking for a building for a Community Centre.

Rainham is a small Centre and is mainly pedestrianised . Its ok but could be improved . Probably having the large Tesco's and Dobbies not far away stops it from being a better centre.

Welcome the opportunity for consultation . Families getting evicted from their homes because the Landlord wants to sell or re rent the property, and putting families into temporary accommodation can be uncertain as to how long temporary means and where are all these temporary housing units to be found, and we have other boroughs sending their young people here, and they are responsible for them.
