Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Policy T2: Housing Mix

Representation ID: 2942

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: St James, Isle of Grain, Parish Council

Representation Summary:

6.1.2
Housing should be prioritised for local residents to enable Medway's growing families o be able to stay in the area. This will help with the care for the 'ageing' population as people will be able to care for their own families much of the time which would reduce the need for additional care homes.
6.2.3
Priority should be given to local residents first time buyers or residents wishing to move within the area. Social housing is becoming a 'lifestyle' choice for people who are able to - but are unwilling - to work.

Policy T27: Reducing Health Inequalities and Supporting Health and Wellbeing

Representation ID: 2965

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: St James, Isle of Grain, Parish Council

Representation Summary:

There seems to be 11 pages about health care and yet the only part referring to doctors surgeries is a paragraph of only 5 lines! The other 11 pages read very well yet according to the local council we need to building another 1,658 new homes every year in Medway.
Quote: Major development must ensure that primary health care facilities provided are of an appropriate scale. This is pure waffle as it is not of a scale now.
This is utterly insulting when people are not happy about waiting six months to see a doctor.

Representation ID: 2974

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: St James, Isle of Grain, Parish Council

Representation Summary:

There are many good ideals so let us hope that they will be kept.

However, when Westminster pulls the strings the labour council will dance - no matter what damage is done to the residents or the environment of the towns - and especially the villages on the Peninsula.

Vision for Medway in 2041

Representation ID: 2983

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: St James, Isle of Grain, Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Very short sighted and out of touch with reality. Whilst we do have a wealth of beautiful nature sites and open spaces, they will not last long with all the building that is planned. There are too many contradictions and inaccuracies.

Policy DM1: Flood and Water Management

Representation ID: 3009

Received: 06/09/2024

Respondent: St James, Isle of Grain, Parish Council

Representation Summary:

We have yet to experience flooding the like of other counties but I think we are under prepared.
Medway Council should urge water companies to repair, maintain and increase supplies to areas in need and areas of future growth.
There are already areas which are not coping and the problems will only be exacerbated by the planned extra housing, combined with the climate changes which are already having an effect.
