Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy S25: Energy Supply
Representation ID: 3686
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Sue Bassett
Impossible to offer detailed comments when so little information is given. Just because Kingsnorth and the Isle of Grain offered energy solutions in the past does not mean they are suitable for future energy development. Wider concerns include the effect on the landscape especially SSIs, access to sites using existing very limited infrastructure and how the local area may benefit from the development.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Vision for Medway in 2041
Representation ID: 3706
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Sue Bassett
Overly optimistic view of Medway. The areas of deprivation especially along the main thoroughfares impact travel choices and perceptions of safety. "Strengthening natural assets" is at odds with the proposed building in Capstone valley, Darland and Hempstead that will join up the south side of the Medway Towns into a big urban area and against the Vision's "...open spaces are valued and benefit as joined up environmental assets". Chatham and Gillingham High Streets are depressing places, little evidence of the "sought after locations" other than Rochester. Medway's farmland faces decimation under the plans.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Spatial Development Strategy
Representation ID: 3728
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Sue Bassett
Paragraph 7 is especially woolly given how important this might be. There is no reassuring detail on how strategic masterplans might be drawn up or the parameters for transport, wider infrastructure and environmental measures. Transport links ie roads are particularly poor and it is difficult to see how there could be improved without significant local impacts.

Policy S2: Conservation and Enhancement of the Natural Environment
Representation ID: 3749
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Sue Bassett
The 10% requirement for diversity is welcome although what it means in practice is not clear.
Local nature reserves need room round them in order to thrive. Building up to their boundaries will reduce their sustainability.
Consideration should be given to sites outside official designations but of importance to local communities to protect green spaces and biodiversity.

Representation ID: 3767

Terms such as "will consider the need', 'expected to submit', 'opportunities sought' are not very reassuring. Developers look to have an upper hand for blanket development once planning permission granted. Current woodland, verges, hedges and grassy areas would disappear to the detriment of the area.

What provisions would be put in place to ensure developments meet water and waste water infrastructure needs without tree or detriment to existing networks.

Increased traffic from increased development will impact air quality along the main routes through the towns. How can this be avoided, public transport like across towns are not good, nearly everything goes through Chatham bus centre.

How can residential development be considered in isolation from infrastructure especially roads?
How will affordable housing be offered for local people and not people from outside the area or buy to let landlords?
