Given the dire potential effects of global warming, I would hope that new housing ought to include solar panels and possibly heat pumps as standard.

This is a difficult problem, allowing more house building but not encroaching on farmland (which is essential to maintain this country's minimal self -sufficiency) and avoiding flood plain land.

Is there any chance of trying to re-occupy empty property? I know this is a suggestion made by central Government and suggestions that empty property tax in such cases should be removed.

Any successful plans to increase the viability of high streets is to be applauded. However, we do not need more charity shops, fried chicken shops, hairdressers/barbers or nail shops.

I would hope that consideration has been given to rising sea levels. Global warming, causing ice to melt, suggests that by 2100 sea levels are expected to rise by 300mm. Would it be possible to provide an areas at risk map?

Due to global warming, water currently locked up as ice in sea etc is melting and by 2100 is expected to cause sea levels to rise by 300mm. This needs to be planned for, as valuable farmland and built-up areas become inundated. An at risk would be useful.
Global warming will cause extreme weather with hotter, dryer summers and colder wetter winters. Farming will be affected which should not be built on. Construction contributes 40% of carbon emissions. The ‘Future Homes Standard’ will force developers to build in a more environmental and sustainable way, deserves mention in the Local Plan.

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) supports the aims of constructing carbon-neutral buildings, in existing urban areas on previously developed land with walking, cycling and public transport as the main means of travel. Developments should not be permitted outside of urban areas away from peoples’ work, services and facilities. Building on previously undeveloped land in rural areas is not sanctioned by government and not considered as sound planning policy.
The NPPF, by implication, includes homeless people within its definition of those needing ‘affordable accommodation’. Local Plans are therefore obliged to include homeless people in their provisions for affordable housing.

Bringing brown field sites back into use, although likely to be more expensive for developers, is surely the best approach.
