Medway Developer Contributions and Obligations Guide

20.1.1

Representation ID: 5037

Received: 25/03/2026

Respondent: East Sussex County Council - King Charles III England Coast Path National Trail

Representation Summary:

The King Charles III England Coast Path National Trail (KCIIIECP) has opened in Medway and should be referenced in this section. This provides new coastal access opportunities for the public, but there is a need to improve connectivity to the trail and link the KCIIIECP with the wider PRoW Network. New development should look to provide enhanced access links with the KCIIIECP, so that the public can take advantage of the new coastal access rights. There are also opportunities to improve accessibility along the KCIIIECP, so that the coast becomes more open to all.

Representation ID: 5038

Received: 25/03/2026

Respondent: East Sussex County Council - King Charles III England Coast Path National Trail

Representation Summary:

The PRoW Management Plan should also take into account National Trails, including the King Charles III England Coast Path (KCIIIECP). Developers must consider the impact of their proposals on the KCIIIECP. Given this is a National Trail, the route should be protected and enhanced, as per the National Planning Policy Framework and local planning policies. Opportunities should also be taken to improve the alignment and accessibility of the KCIIIECP where possible. If the Trail needs to be diverted to accommodate development, a Variation Report will need to be processed by Natural England to legally change the alignment of the path.

20.2.1

Representation ID: 5039

Received: 25/03/2026

Respondent: East Sussex County Council - King Charles III England Coast Path National Trail

Representation Summary:

While the existing text is supported, this section should also highlight the King Charles III England Coast Path (KCIIIECP) National Trail. National Trails are long distance walks through some of the best landscapes the UK has to offer. They are designated by the Government and managed to a set of Quality Standards that sets them above PRoW and other routes. Developers contributions should reflect the status and distinction of the National Trails.
