Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)

5.17

Representation ID: 1355

Received: 31/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Elizabeth Turpin

Representation Summary:

Very unhappy with the proposal to change the land designation of Chatham Docks to mixed use. This will force out the companies in Chatham Docks as they will be unable to work alongside residential dwellings. What is the employment proposal of that area? Why is a Port Company not doing what they say they do and provide ports. This has happened in other areas. We should be protecting this area as otherwise will be forcing businesses and many jobs out of not just Chatham Docks, but Medway. As they need the river to function.

Respondent: Mrs Elizabeth Turpin

Representation Summary:

Strongly disagreement with changing the land use of these areas. Businesses have invested a lot in the area and will provide much instability for them. We will lose these businesses and therefore jobs from Medway. Not only is housing important. For Medway but so is providing local jobs for local people.

Relocation of these business is likely to mean we lose them from Medway. We need to be confident that we have other suitable sites before making such significant changes.

Respondent: Mrs Elizabeth Turpin

Representation Summary:

These villages need to have their identity protected. People who live within our villages have chosen to for their rural location. We need to be sensitive to that and not over develop in these areas. Some very small villages may want some development to retain their services, but careful planning, talking with the parish councils to ensure it is not too much, too quick which will change the character and way of life for the residents.

5.40

Representation ID: 1359

Received: 31/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Elizabeth Turpin

Representation Summary:

Many of the reasons why the HIF did not come forward are due to the severe challenges of building in this area. Due to two main factors, the traffic assessment which has not come forward, and the ecological assessment due to the significant designations of RAMSAR and SSSI, with a number of rare and protected species.
Historical assessments have never been released into the public domain. These have been funded by the local people in their council taxes and should be available once received by the council. Unable to comment in an informed way without it.

5.41

Representation ID: 1360

Received: 31/10/2023

Respondent: Mrs Elizabeth Turpin

Representation Summary:

When the HIF was promoted the council widely informed people that development of that scale could not come forward without it. Now with the loss of HIF residents are told it will come forward anyway. This is a clear contradiction of what has been told by council planning officers who have said only 1000 more properties come come forward. This is without the increase of industrial traffic that has since increased due to the growth and successful promotion of Kingsnorth.

Representation Summary:

Careful consideration needs to be given to the increased sites at Grain and Kingsnorth while also considering large scale residential development. The HIF was not really addressing the increased employment traffic and now we are considering both, but without the HiF.
