Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)

Policy DM3: Air Quality

Representation ID: 1781

Received: 15/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller

Representation Summary:

I am concerned that you talk about the environment and air quality whilst also talking about increased housing on greenfield sites. Building on greenfield has a detrimental effect on air quality, as does more housing, but it’ll be existing residents who will pay the price, and get punished (probably financially) for the increase in pollution, even though they haven’t increased their carbon footprint. Walking and cycling is all very well, but if you live on the fringes of the towns, you need to be pretty fit to cope with the hills, esp in Lordswood and Walderslade.

Policy DM17: Grain Branch

Representation ID: 1783

Received: 15/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller

Representation Summary:

Should never have let the HIF money go. A mainline railway into London and connecting the other towns should have been a priority over everything else. It made total sense. Given our proximity to London, you can’t just keep building further and further away from main line stations and expect people to use public transport to get there. It’s just not viable for people. And one of the reasons that the Lidsing Garden Village should never have been approved by Maidstone.

Representation Summary:

Building in the Capstone Valley, Riverside and Darland are the [REDACTED] ideas put out there. They are the most important areas of green space available on the Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham side of the river. In fact, they are pretty much the only significant green spaces left. Building on these 3 areas will be significantly detrimental to the environment.

3.2.1

Representation ID: 1785

Received: 15/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller

Representation Summary:

You cannot say that the environment is important in the same breath as saying you want to build on the only green spaces left in Medway on the south side of the river. You only have to look at a map of the developed areas of Medway to see that proportionately, there is very little green space left.

Policy DM3: Air Quality

Representation ID: 1788

Received: 15/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller

Representation Summary:

Building more houses, esp on greenfield areas away from main line stations will only add to poor air quality, but how will you avoid punishing existing residents (mostly drivers) through financial penalties. Many people will be unable to afford to change their lifestyle (work etc).

Badly need bungalows for older people that require them. My mum has been trying to sell her 6 bedroom family home for a 2 bedroom bungalow, but so many have been converted to chalet bungalows with the bedrooms upstairs, making them useless for people who want a single story bungalow.
