Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy T4: Supported Housing, Nursing Homes and Older Persons Accommodation
Representation ID: 1841
Received: 22/07/2024
Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller
More bungalows needed. Not all older or disabled people need assisted living or care homes. Many could cope perfectly well in bungalows, but they harder to find as many are being converted to chalet bungalows, removing their usefulness to people needing single story (not apartment) homes.

[REDACTED] I think this is an excellent location to develop new employment opportunities.
I have some knowledge of Kingsnorth as my husband worked from a lorry yard next to the power station. I think this is an excellent location to develop new employment opportunities.

Existing approvals for housing on greenfield such as East Hill and Gibraltar Farm in the Capstone Valley go totally against the policy of not allowing housing that will place an inappropriate strain on local and rural roads.
There is so little green space left in Medway south of the river. It’s all very well saying that only a certain percentage is urbanised, but most of that is concentrated in one area. And the non-urbanised percentage includes areas that are not even possible to develop such as marshland. This warps the figures in favour of more building on greenfield.

Policy S15: Town Centres Strategy
Representation ID: 1845
Received: 22/07/2024
Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller
Town centres need to be more attractive and a pleasant place to be. We need pretty and attractive buildings, green spaces, trees, places to sit [REDACTED]. Rochester is quite nice, but Chatham and Gillingham are places you go to because you have to, not because you want to. Some nice tea rooms and quaint individual shops would be nice, not full of pound shops etc.

Rainham Shopping Centre was nice when it was first built, with good individual shops such as pet shops, flower shops, games shops, bakery etc, but mostly now taken over by charity shops. It also feels neglected, tired and dirty.

Policy S22: Hoo Peninsula
Representation ID: 1847
Received: 22/07/2024

Probably not the most popular opinion, but the Hoo Peninsula is probably the most suitably placed to take more development. It has already has a railway line that can be upgraded to provide a mainline London connection (although not to connect it to the rest of Medway would be ridiculous). It also can accommodate much more development than the rest of Medway, whilst still maintaining more greenfield than the rest of Medway. And unlike places like lower Rainham and Capstone Valley, it also capacity to take additional infrastructure such as new roads. It really needs local treatment centre though.

Policy DM12: Local and Rural Centres
Representation ID: 1848
Received: 22/07/2024

Admirals Walk and the Kestrel have long been neglected. The Kestrel is dirty and the anti-social behaviour makes this not a very nice place to be [REDACTED]. The provision of disabled parking near both of these areas is unsatisfactory, and not in the best position in Newton close. Disabled parking could be better located and better marked. The disabled parking at Admirals Walk is frequently occupied by non badge holders and people [REDACTED] in the barbers.

Vision for Access and Movement in Medway
Representation ID: 1849
Received: 22/07/2024
Respondent: Mrs Stella Tiller
[REDACTED] Medway doesn’t have an e-scooter scheme. Much of Walderslade, Lordswood and Chatham are not suitable for cycling except for the fittest. There is no quick direct bus link from Clandon Road area to Chatham (10 mins by car, 30mins by bus) and it’s expensive.
Bus access to any other area is completely impractical. A bus from Lordswood to Rainham, Gillingham or Hempstead Valley is unworkable for most people. If I need to pop to [REDACTED] Rainham, then run a few errands, it would take all day instead of a couple of hours.

You are creating more traffic and congestion through never ending building, and then looking to ‘punish’ [REDACTED] local residents for the resulting environmental impact.

Representation ID: 1851

Explain how developments like Gibraltar Farm and East Hill will generate lower levels of car use? The positioning of these developments will only increase car use. Public transport in Medway towns is not fit for purpose.
