Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy T28: Existing Open Space and Playing Pitches
Representation ID: 4025
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
Building on green open spaces, especially in today's climate crisis, is irresponsible. It’s contradictory to claim commitment to net-zero targets or environmental care while actively seeking to eliminate vital green areas. These spaces play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and community wellbeing. Their destruction undermines efforts to combat climate change and diminishes the quality of life. True environmental stewardship involves protecting and enhancing green spaces, not sacrificing them for short-term development goals.

Policy DM21: New open space and playing pitches
Representation ID: 4029
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
Instead of removing green spaces and replacing them with unattractive, impractical houses that no one needs, why not invest in the existing spaces we already have? Enhancing and maintaining our current areas can improve the community’s quality of life without sacrificing valuable green spaces. Upgrading local infrastructure, supporting existing facilities, and revitalising current spaces will create a more sustainable and attractive environment, reflecting the true needs and desires of the residents.

Policy T29: Community and Cultural Facilities
Representation ID: 4034
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
I live in Allhallows, where we have been severely neglected by Medway Council for decades. Our village lacks essential community and cultural facilities, which has left us without the resources and support needed to thrive. Despite the increasing population, there has been no corresponding investment in our local infrastructure or amenities. This neglect has left us with limited opportunities for community engagement and cultural enrichment, highlighting the urgent need for Medway Council to address these deficiencies and invest in our village's development and well-being. Medway Council need to start listening to each community to figure out what they need.

Policy S24: Infrastructure Delivery
Representation ID: 4041
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
You want to take away our green spaces to build more houses we don’t need. Instead, you should be investing in infrastructure and genuinely consulting with every village and local community. Ask the people what they truly need and want, rather than making decisions that often lead to problems. Medway Council’s past approach of acting without proper consultation has resulted in repeated mistakes. It’s time for Medway Council to listen to the residents and address their actual needs, rather than pursuing plans that only serve to create further issues.

I live in Allhallows, and after nearly 21 years here, I can confidently say our broadband and Wi-Fi have always been terrible. Improving this would be fantastic, as it currently makes it very difficult for me to complete my university work.

Policy T30: Safeguarding Mineral Resources
Representation ID: 4082
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
I live in Allhallows, and I strongly believe that mineral resources should definitely be safeguarded. Protecting these resources is crucial for ensuring that we have access to essential materials for future developments and maintaining local industries. Safeguarding them prevents unnecessary depletion and supports sustainable planning, which is especially important in our area where development pressures are high. Responsible management and protection of these resources are key to balancing growth with long-term environmental and economic benefits.

Policy DM23: Waste Prevention
Representation ID: 4085
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
I believe that increasing recycling efforts and reducing overall waste is crucial and highly beneficial. Not only is it cost-effective, but it also significantly helps the environment by conserving resources and reducing landfill use. By prioritising recycling, we can minimise the environmental impact of waste, support sustainability, and contribute to a healthier planet.

In Allhallows, the sewage system is beyond capacity, leading to significant problems for local residents. The overburdened system frequently results in unpleasant odours, potential health hazards, and environmental concerns. With the increased strain from existing and new developments, these issues are exacerbated, causing discomfort and frustration for residents. The inadequate sewage infrastructure not only impacts daily living conditions but also raises concerns about potential long-term damage to the environment and local amenities. It's crucial to address these capacity issues to ensure the well-being of the community and maintain a healthy living environment.

Policy T35: Provision of Additional Waste Management Capacity
Representation ID: 4090
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Miss Rachael Selleck
In Allhallows, the sewage system is critically outdated and beyond its capacity, creating serious issues for local residents. The system's current state leads to frequent blockages and unpleasant odours, posing health risks and environmental concerns. With ongoing and planned developments, the strain on this inadequate infrastructure is set to worsen, amplifying existing problems. A drastic update to the sewage system is urgently needed to address these deficiencies, ensure proper waste management, and protect both public health and the local environment.
