This procedure for commenting is not at all clear. I have got all the way to part 6 before I discovered that i should have been clicking the small button to open the comments section. The 100 word limit does not feel enough. Some clear questions would have also been preferable. I wonder how many people have got through this document without feeling like they could comment as well?

Prepared for a sustainable and green future

An improvement to school transport needs to be made. As an example I am driving my diesel car to 2 separate schools because the options for public transport are either too expensive or not suitable. I realise I am both adding to pollution and traffic congestion but I see no reasonable alternative at the moment. I am also not in a position to change my car currently to an electric alternative which is something I wish to do in the future.

I am very concerned about growth in the Lordswood, Darland, Lidsing area. Maidstone Council are also looking to build a Garden Village here. There are many environmental concerns about how much green land will be lost to urban spread. The biggest practical issue I see here is traffic management. The areas between Luton, Hale, North Dane Way, Ash Tree Lane and Pear Tree Lane already see huge traffic jams at peak times. Public Transport is not going to be used in the short term at least, it will mean more cars.

Quite simply, ALL new homes and developments should be forced to build solar panels onto the roofs as part of the agreed planning permission.

More trees need to be planted in urban areas in order to encourage more wildlife as well as the cooling effect trees bring. They can also be used to help with flood management and erosion.

Farm land is being too easily thought of as suitable land for housing. Once made for housing it will never go back. More farm land needs to be kept to prevent further urban spread and encourage wildlife to stay or even return. These areas are better used to be turned into wildlife areas which is also better for the human spirit. Some farmland will inherently be needed for housing but habitats and corridors are being lost.

This appears to be completely in contrast to where housing is going to be built, especially around the Capstone area

I have found the use of wood burners in homes to have had a more significant adverse affect on my health than traffic pollution. I thought I lived in a clean air zone. This seems to be more focused on coal but the domestic wood burner is a significant problem. This is both for the residents within the home as well as the neighbours breathing in the exhaust fumes.

The area along Watling Street / Rainham Road has noticeably improved due to the impact of a few individuals taking care of the frontages of their houses. It appears at least to have led to less fly tipping and the general appearance / feel of the area. Encouragement for the care of an area may well benefit the well being of the residents living within them. Taking pride in your area can lead to better mental health for those living within it.

This is very important. Great design is achievable and will make a huge difference to how successful any new development will prove to be.
