Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)
The plan's vision is to
Representation ID: 1405
Received: 31/10/2023
Respondent: Mr Alexander Cameron
It is not clear that City status is beneficial or necessary for Medway as a place.
Climate change is the output of a set of global problems (our impact on the planet,) - it is the wrong term to use. Our goal is fixing those problems, and hence restore our planet and our eco system.
Green growth - poor terminology but it must include the creation of a new and innovative green economic infrastructure, that funds and enables Medway to flourish.
An integrated people-sized transport infrastucture is essential.
Our plan must benefit the full diversity of our communities across Medway.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)
Prepared for a sustainable and green future
Representation ID: 1409
Received: 31/10/2023
Respondent: Mr Alexander Cameron
The plan must look beyond the climate emergency to the creation and long-term sustainment of Medway as a flourishing truly net zero/ green powerhouse. So, the ability to flex and adapt this plan is essenmtial as we learn, and fresh solutions are developed.
This must impact all areas of our diverse community and how we live, work, and enjoy our town. It must embrace how we move around, our spaces and places and deliver the new layers of infrastructure, some of which we have not yet identified.
So we also need a business plan for Medway to deliver this.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)
Securing jobs and developing skills for a competitive economy

To enable that competitive economy, we need to innovate and build the essential supporting infrastructure at local level as well as across the town, creating an environment of opportunities that can deliver that economic powerhouse that will fund this plan as part of a business plan for Medway.
This means letting go of our current silo thinking, connecting, and joining today's strands and enabling new strands of opportunity to flourish inside a farmwork that welcome and promotes delivering creative new enterprises (human scale).
Creativity and heritage are vital elements of our shared future and enable our diverse cultural landscape.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2023)
Boost pride in Medway through quality and resilient development
Representation ID: 1426
Received: 31/10/2023
Respondent: Mr Alexander Cameron
My vision is for a Medway of connected but unique expression of community, each offering it unique flavor and style but part of the Medway identity.
To enable this, we need to create high quality affordable and carbon negative homes, connected and served by the an integrated array of services (education, health care, etc) and the supporting infrastructure (transport, waste management, water, community energy generation) they need to flourish and live.
GAP - This must be underpinned by a Medway business plan and roadmap which enables and resources the delivery of this as a sustaibale Local plan,.

Poorly designed and delivered (or undelivered) developments have blighted Medway for decades. Priorities should be adjusted to deliver quality, affordable housing development of the correct size and scale matched to the needs of the people of Medway.
Significant growth and attention to green spaces and public realm is needed .
Mixed developments which combine local (very small scale) industry with local housing and community facilities are the way ahead , moving away from industrial estates mentality so beloved by planners. Human scale zoning should become the norm.

Implies that future development must be truly matched to the needs of Medway and its communities (e.g. small scale, low rise house, with provision for the local industry and services that build communities (rather than faceless housing schemes and industrial estates.)
A sustainable Medway does not seek development at any cost or to meet arbitrary political targets imposed from outside.

Medway must push back on such external political targets which are driven by the lobbying of volume developers rather than a firm understanding of local housing needs. I expected Medway council to have a firm understanding of our actual local needs and to deliver a framework which matches that need.
Commerical entities may then compete to meet that need, but should never be allowed to dictate they need.

Will this evidence base be available for review - when?
If the government model is flawed ( as it seems to be) why use it?

Please add some information of the role of Trasport Southeast on our transport infrastructure. This is very unclear. As Medway is part of it , we should be driving the agenda vigerously.
