Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Policy T1: Promoting High Quality Design
Representation ID: 3692
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
The council may promote high quality design but those builds that have gone up in recent years have shown that the councils have failed miserably. This is from both sides of the political divide as both sides had a vote on what to approve.
It has also been shown that developers will promise one thing but deliver another making a nonsense of the system.

Policy DM5: Housing Design
Representation ID: 3693
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
Recent builds have been too small, of poor quality and with little or no garden or parking. I have known several people have purchased new builds and all have been disappointed with the quality of the build which has fallen way short of what was promised. Coming from a building family I have been appalled at what has been revealed as being acceptable building standards. We should learn from Grenfell that developers, materials suppliers and inspectors have fallen short of the standards required to produce quality builds. The new builds of today will be the slums of tomorrow.

Policy DM6: Sustainable Design and Construction
Representation ID: 3790
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
Most new builds do not allow the drying of washing outside on a clothes line, opting instead for a tumble dryer. How can this be more energy efficient? How many people are so offended by drying washing on a line that they would jeopardise sustainability, climate and carbon footprint for it?
How often with new builds do councils make sure all building materials are locally sourced, what checks are in place?
Houses should facilitate working from home by providing a separate office space not just broadband otherwise there is no life-work balance affecting mental health.

Policy DM7: Shopfront Design and Security
Representation ID: 3792
Received: 08/09/2024

It is all very well making the shopfronts visually pleasant but you only have to look at the highstreets in the Medway Towns to see that they are full of abandoned and graffitied shops because the requirement for shops has diminished since online trading became more popular.

Policy DM8: Advertisements

I don't think advertisements should be allowed on the facia of any heritage site as it is jarring and detracts from the site.

Policy S8: Historic Environment
Representation ID: 3804

I think the local plan should include our agricultural heritage for consideration. It appears that throughout all the documents there is little reference to our agricultural heritage nor our thriving farming community. These should be given more support.

Policy DM9: Heritage Assets
Representation ID: 3810
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
There should be a heritage lists that includes, not only those of National or International important but also those of local importance. It is a pity this was not considered when discussing the Gibraltar Farm development. Gibraltar Farm and Elm Court were used as a dummy airfield during the last World war.
At school we are devising a secondary curriculum that includes local issues and history. We are including local interest sites, why isn't the council?

Policy T3: Affordable Housing
Representation ID: 3841
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
Affordable housing will be anything but affordable. It has been shown that these houses will be purchased by 'buy to let' landlords or by people migrating from other areas of Britain resulting in an increase in population and the housing need will never diminish. Affordable housing should be sold/rented only to people who have been resident in Medway for 3-5yrs to ensure local people are given a chance to buy or rent.

Policy T4: Supported Housing, Nursing Homes and Older Persons Accommodation
Representation ID: 3858
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
You should ask older people what they would like. Many don't want to be separated from the rest of the community in supported housing complexes or nursing homes, they want to be in their own homes and community they have grown old in. Older people feel isolated and abandoned, council should enable the support and care for older people within their own home and community.

Policy T6: Mobile Home Parks
Representation ID: 3864
Received: 08/09/2024
Respondent: Mrs Maureen Wade
Mobile home parks do not provide housing for 12 months of the year, usually only 10months. Does the council intend to change this or to maintain the 10month rule? Both options come with issues that need consideration e.g. where do people go for the remaining 2 months?
