Support this strategy. Medway needs public transport to be prioritised. Needs to be innovative to encourage transition away from non-private car.

Medway Local Plan (Regulation 18, 2024)
Spatial Development Strategy

Support. Regeneration is key in an urban area like Medway. Needs to be more metropolitain in culture (walking, cycling, public transport). Some areas are too car dependent. Urban regen needs to be quality design. We are seeing too many poor quality designed flats being thrown up. Landlords need to ensure properties are looked after to make sure key thoroughfares look good! Won’t attract investment with the HMOs that are destroying conservation areas.

Right approach. The core 5 towns of Medway need urban renewal/ regeneration. This should extend to Rainham precinct (large site desperate for high quality shops and flats). Chatham and gillingham high streets need to be developed to attract footfall/ increase safety. Any green field housing should be on the Hoo peninsula. They have the space for the infrastructure to be built in properly to ensure roads/ sustainable transport networks are there from the start! New housing in the core 5 towns should be prioritised along transport corridors.

Support. Although should we be building houses so close to the flood zone in the first place? That’s my concern with development along lower Rainham road.

Support. High quality design should be prioritised. Doesn’t mean expensive materials but does mean the proposals should be in proportion, uniform in form and window/ balcony placement. Should also fit into character of the areas
